This week’s Fish of the Week is the Tiger Barb; or Sumatra Barb as they are also known.
These eye-catching fish will add movement and colour to any aquarium with their orange/gold body and 4 distinctive black stripes.
Well suited to aquarists of all experience levels, Tiger Barbs are easy to keep, growing to approximately 7cm in length and are best kept in shoals of 8 or more.
Classed as semi-aggressive, Tiger Barbs companions should be carefully selected as they are known to nip the fins of slower, longer finned tank mates.
These playful fish do best in aquariums 60 litres or larger with a temperature range of between 21°C and 26°C and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5.
Tiger Barbs are considered to be omnivorous which means they will eat pretty much anything including most varieties of live, fresh, flake and freeze dried tropical fish foods.
